Most of my posts are on how texting affects social life and grammar. Some offer advice on how to counteract these affects and how parents can monitor or control the use of texting.

This article talks about the social impact of text messaging comes with a video!http://www.newsy.com/videos/texting-beats-calling-for-u-s-teens/

This website has some quotes from teachers about their opinions on the effect of texting on students’ grammarhttp://www.enotes.com/soc/discuss/what-effects-that-texting-has-teenagers-65991?start=0

http://www.mobilephonesandsafety.co.uk/does-text-speak-affect-grammatical-ability.htmlThis piece speaks of what teachers do to fight using text speech in their papers.

This article gives some stats on what people think about students who text and then a case study. It also mentions that those who text aren’t as in depth in writing.http://www.docslibrary.com/text-messaging-and-its-effects-on-teens-grammar

This article provides another link to a full report that lists more stats. The bottom of the page has a calculator that says teens text more but college students have a higher percentage of phones compared to teens. You can see where you compare to a teenager when it comes to text by filling out your sex and how many texts you send a day based on their studies. This could be something the class could do. We could come up with an average and see where the class compares with teens.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126117811A quote from the url link above. The teacher’s talking about computers here but the article is mainly on texting.

"They can get up the courage to ask you for [a deadline] extension on the computer," she says. "But they won't come and speak to you face-to-face about it. And that worries me, in terms of their ability — particularly once they get out in the workplace — to interact with people."

This lists ways parents can combat texting and promote face to face interactionhttp://blog.growingleaders.com/uncategorized/building-relationship-skills-in-a-texting-generation/
